The city of Tracy can trace its origins back to 1869, when a Central Pacific Railroad line was completed from Sacramento to Stockton and the San Francisco Bay Area. Tracy, which was named after railroad director Lathrop J. Tracy, was one of the towns to be built near this railroad line. Thanks to its rich soil and moderate climate, Tracy prospered as an agricultural community for much of its history.
Today, Tracy is home to over 80,000 people. The city is enclosed within a triangle of freeways, and one of Tracy's mottoes is "Think Inside the Triangle." Though Tracy isn't as much of a railroad town as it used to be, it's still big on agriculture. Many people have found Tracy to be a more affordable and laid-back alternative to the Bay Area.
